Update

I want to offer a resounding thank you  to those of you who have helped spread the word or who have agreed to participate in this study.   Over the last two months, I’ve had an excellent response from atheists, agnostics, humanists, and infidels from all over the globe. I’ll be wrapping up one-on-one interviews on August 6th, a week earlier than expected. There’s still time to schedule an interview, though, if you haven’t yet done so.  I’ll conclude the data collection phase of my research in early September, after I conduct group interviews with two atheist groups from different cities.  After that, it’s on to the analysis and writing phases of research.

Once again, I want to say thank you to those who have helped make this study possible!

Call for Research Participants

Currently, I am undertaking a study which considers the background, experiences, and beliefs of people of color  over the age of 18 who identify as atheist, agnostic, secular-humanist, non-theist and/or free thinking. If this describes you, please consider taking part in this important research.

Individuals who wish to participate will be asked to take part in an interview, either via skype or phone. Interviews will be conducted until August 6, 2012, and should last between thirty and sixty minutes approximately. Participants will be asked questions about religious history and the development of a non-theist identity and worldview.    All interviews will remain confidential and subjects will be given a pseudonym. If you have questions about this study, or if you wish to participate, please send an email to creeksj@hollins.edu.

This research has been approved by the Human Research Review Committee of Hollins University.  For further information about research participant rights, you can reach the Human Research Review Committee chair, Michael Gettings at (540) 362-6432.
